The former federal prosecutor Jessica Aber was found dead on Friday morning, March 22.
Alexandria Police Department said officers responded to a call of an unresponsive woman in the 900 block of Beverley Drive—a residential neighborhood—and found Aber, 43, was dead.
APD said they are still investigating the circumstances of her death and awaiting the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of her death.
It has only been two months since Aber resigned from her position as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA). Her resignation took effect on January 20, the day of President Donald Trump’s inauguration and came within a month of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia also resigning.
“We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber,” said the current U.S. attorney for the EDVA, Erik Siebert. “Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard. Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career. She loved EDVA and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted.”
Jason Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia, also stated he was saddened to learn of Aber’s passing and extended thoughts and prayers to her family.
