Leesburg Police Department is waiting for a Maryland couple to be extradited back to Virginia to face felony charges related to a shoplifting incident that occurred last year.
LPD officers were dispatched to the Ulta on Village Market Blvd, on October 27, a Friday. It was reported that around 3 p.m. a man and woman came in and stole over $6,400 worth of merchandise, the department stated.
LPD launched an investigation and identified the suspects as 29-year-old Roxana Dumitru and 30-year-old Ionut-Robert Ionescu. Both are residents of Laurel, MD.
Each of them has been charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of larceny with the intent to sell.
And according to LPD, it is estimated that this couple is responsible for the organized retail theft totaling over $158,000 from multiple retail stores located in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina.
Working with federal partners, LPD was able to find the couple’s locations. Dumitru was arrested and in Prince George’s County, MD. Ionescu was arrested in Orange County, CA. Both are being held awaiting extradition.
“In the fight against organized retail theft, it is essential to recognize that this is not a victimless crime,” said Leesburg Police Chief Thea Pirnat. “Every stolen item represents more than just a loss for businesses; it impacts the livelihoods of hardworking individuals and jeopardizes the economic health of our community.”
