Deric Lee Jr., a 42-year-old murder suspect, got away after allegedly leading police on a chase through four Hampton Roads cities, but he was captured less than a day a later.
On April 30, at about 10 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the 3600 block of Harbinger Rd. for a shooting where they found a victim, 63-year-old Regina Banks of Virginia Beach, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Lee was quickly identified as the suspect, and according to VBPD, he initiated a police chase.

Virginia State Police said VBPD reached out stating they in pursuit of a grey Lexus and troopers joined the chase in Virginia Beach.
Lee allegedly got onto I-264 and went through Norfolk and Chesapeake into Portsmouth.
With VBPD and VSP still in pursuit, Lee got onto I-664 North toward the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel but there was a large police and first responder presence near the bridge due to a suicide investigation that was underway so as Lee approached the bridge, he reportedly made a sudden lane change and took the College Drive exit.

Lee went to Fawkes Street, which comes to a dead end. According to VSP, he jumped out the vehicle and the car kept going and crashed into the trees. Lee ran into the woods and disappeared.
VSP said they set up a perimeter, aviation and K-9 units were called in, and VBPD brought in drones but Lee wasn’t found.
The following afternoon, May 1, VBPD announced he had been taken into custody with assistance from the U.S. Marshals, VSP, the Chesapeake Police Department, and the Portsmouth Police Department.
Lee is charged with 2nd degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He’s being held without bond.
