Over Thanksgiving weekend, a hospital employee was stabbed at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in what authorities describe as an unprovoked attack inside
Deputies were called to the emergency room waiting area around 3 a.m. on Sunday, November 30. When they arrived, they found blood on the floor and a broken ink pen believed to have been used in the assault.
According to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Nicole Smith of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, appears to have been sitting in the waiting area when she became enraged. She allegedly confronted and attacked a staff member “without provocation”, stabbing the employee multiple times in the head and face with the pen.

The victim managed to fend off the attack and escape to safety.
Smith remained in the waiting room and was arrested without incident. She is charged with malicious wounding and is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
“We are appalled by the actions of a visitor to our county against one of our healthcare workers,” Major Delbert Myrick said in a statement. “Healthcare workers dedicate themselves to caring for our sick and injured loved ones, and when one of them is senselessly attacked, it impacts the entire community.”
