State Police looking for 19-year-old I-85 murder suspect

Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 19-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting along Interstate 85.

At approximately 3:47 p.m. on August 28, troopers responded to reports of a shooting on I-85 northbound near the five-mile marker in Mecklenburg. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found a Honda Civic that had gone off the right side of the road and down in a culvert.

The driver, Hunter A. Bates, 20, had been shot and was pronouncd dead at the scene. A female passenger was transported to an area hospital and later released.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office identified Jason Allen Glidewell II, of Bracey, Va., as the suspect. 

Glidewell is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds.

Warrants have been issued for Glidewell’s arrest on charges of 2nd degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. 

He is believed to have ties to the Richmond and Henrico areas and was last known to be driving a silver 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche with Virginia registration TFN-1004. Authorities are also seeking information on the whereabouts of this vehicle.

Glidewell is considered armed and dangerous.
