A Caroline Middle School student is being held in detention after being arrested on charges for threats of violence, Caroline County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The incident was uncovered by CMS students who reportedly overheard the suspect talking about threats of violence that would occur at the school after spring break. Those students reported what they heard, according to School Resource Officer Deputy I. Deitz.
Their report prompted a “thorough” joint investigation that included Deitz and Caroline Schools’ staff.
Caroline County Juvenile Intake found the situation warranted issuing charges against the student in question. Although specifics about the findings and threats haven’t been disclosed, CCSO said, “Due to the nature of the alleged threats, Juvenile Intake ordered that the juvenile be held at a juvenile detention facility pending further court action.”
CCSO also said when its investigators searched the suspect’s home, “out of an abundance of caution,” they seized a 12-guage shotgun believed to belong to family member.
Sheriff Scott Moser commended the students who came forward. “Their bravery and swift action embody the spirit of community and responsibility we strive to nurture in Caroline County,” he said.
