Virginia State Police asking for tips on wanted Chesapeake woman

Virginia State Police is asking for the public’s help to locate a 27-year-old Chesapeake woman wanted for allegedly causing a fatal crash. On December 30, in the early hours, Dominique Chi'qura Goodwin was driving a 2018 Volkswagen heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-64 in Norfolk and crashed head-on into a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, according to VSP. The Equinox was driven Shelby Riddick Walker of Portsmouth who was killed instantly, authorities say. Goodwin is facing an aggravated involuntary manslaughter charge. VSP said it has seen been trying to find Goodwin to arrest her, but those efforts have not been successful. Highway and marine closures ahead for James River Bridge

Preliminary lane closures and traffic stoppages on the Route 17 James River Bridge were scheduled to start today, January 6, to prepare for a 4-day full closure of the bridge. January full shutdown VDOT announced that a critical maintenance project is needed that will replace 40 of the 80 counterweight wire ropes that lift the bridge for marine traffic. That work will require full closure of the bridge from Friday, January 12, at 1 a.m. through Tuesday, January 16, at 5 a.m. Ahead of the shutdown, there will be a single-lane in both directions that's slated to start as early as 7 p.m. on January 11. 7 Vehicle Crash Closes MMBT Southboun in Newport News

It was a 7-vehicle crashed that closed the southbound side of the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel in Newport News on Monday, Virginia State Police revealed. The accident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. And based on VSP’s preliminary investigations, it appears a Ford Focus hit the back of Chevy Malibu, which, in turn, sideswiped a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer then rear-ended a Hyundai Sonata, causing it to hit a Ford Escape, which was pushed into a Buick. The 3-year-old who was taken from Staten Island and believed to possibly be in the Virginia has been found, but the person accused of kidnapping her has not.   On Monday, Virginia State Police issued an alert on behalf of the New York City Police Department advising that Kadence France was missing, was possibly in Virginia, and there was a credible threat of health and safety. The child was last seen on Saturday, December 16, with 26-year-old Randalae Rhodes, the alert added. After two days missing, NYPD confirmed that France was returned to a police precinct in the city by a family member Monday. A 63-year-old Newport News woman was killed in a crash in Isle of Wight yesterday. It was approximately 6:30 a.m. that the call came in about the crash at the intersection of Rt. 620 (Foursquare Road) and Rt. 258 (Scotts Ferry Road), VSP reported. Based on the preliminary investigations, VSP found that Yvonne Howell Higgs of Riverlands Drive was headed east on Foursquare Rd. and failed to stop at the stop sign. When Higgs drove out into the intersection a 2015 International Bay Disposal dump truck that was traveling southbound on Scotts Ferry Rd. crashed into the driver’s side door the 2006 Lincoln MKZ she was driving, VSP reported. Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, commonly called CHKD, agreed to pay $68,400 to settle civil penalty claims accusing the hospital of violating the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) announced. The federal government alleged that “CHKD failed to comply with various recordkeeping requirements” mandated for DEA registrants who handle controlled substances. Providing some specifics, EDVA said the government accused the Norfolk-based hospital of having prescription drugs deliveries coming to a warehouse that wasn’t registered with the DEA between late March 2021 and December 2021. VA breaks ground on I-64 Gap Widening between Richmond & Hampton

Monday, November 13, marked the groundbreaking for the $756 million I-64 Gap Widening Project. The project’s goal is to improve travel between Richmond to Hampton Roads. To do so, the plan is to expand each side of the highway from two lanes to three lanes from mile marker 204.9 in New Kent County to mile marker 233.3 in James City County. Also, 10-foot-wide paved shoulders will be added in each direction. Adjoining parts of I-64 are already have six or more lane, and that’s why this area is referred to as “the gap,” notes VDOT. Siemens Gamesa canceled its plan to build “the first offshore wind turbine blade facility in the United States” in Portsmouth. In October 2021, amid the launch ceremony for the project, the European turbine maker announced it had signed a long-term lease with the Virginia Port Authority for over 80 acres at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal. Rt. 460 in Isle of Wight shut down by truck-on-truck crash

The closures on US 460 in Isle of Wight that spanned from Thursday night into Friday morning were due to a two-vehicle crash. Both vehicles were tractor-trailers, Virginia State Police reported. Shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, VSP said they responded to an incident on Rt. 460 just west of the intersection of Rt. 639, Winston Drive. Leslie Paul-Moore Turner was hauling an empty chassis trailer with a 2020 Volvo, and VSP said its preliminary investigation revealed that Turner’s vehicle “became disabled” in the right lane on the eastbound side of Rt. 460. Portsmouth now using speed cameras near schools

Drivers near Portsmouth schools, take note that speeding could be pricey. The City has implemented an automated traffic enforcement program aka speed cameras. Portsmouth PD said the speed cameras will enforce the speed limit on school days when classes are in session. Enforcement times are from 30 minutes before the start of school until 30 minutes after dismissal. PPD said citations will only be issued if a vehicle is more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit, and every school zone that is subject to photo enforcement is supposed to have signs displaying the speed limit and signs disclosing the use of speed cameras.
