Westmoreland woman goes missing, Tappahannock man arrested for murder

A 20-year-old Tappahannock man who was wanted for 1st degree murder was arrested at a convenience store in Tappahannock. Kearrah T. Chappell, a 21-year-old Westmoreland woman was reported missing on April 1st. The last sighting of her was around 9 p.m. that day at her home, according to information from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. Wednesday night, around 11:15 p.m., a body matching her description was found in the 300 block of Welford’s Wharf Rd. in Richmond County, which neighbors Westmoreland, announced Richmond County Sheriff Stephan Smith. Stolen vehicle arrest leads to discovery of dead women in Manassas

An investigation involving a stolen vehicle in Shenandoah County led to the discovery of what appears to be a double murder in Manassas. Prince William calls On Tuesday, April 2, at 12:45 a.m., Prince William County Police received two calls. One was for a report of a man with a gun in the area of 8100 block of Porter Ridge Ln. in Manassas, said PWCPD. The other call was a 61-year-old man who reported he was carjacked in the 8100 block of Portwood Turn in Manassas. PWCPD said when officers responded to the scene with the carjacking victim, he explained he had just parked his vehicle and was approached by a man with a gun who took his vehicle. Blue Ridge man charged with murder of 5-year-old in Botetourt

A 33-year-old Blue Ridge man has been charged with the murder of a 5-year-old boy last summer. 911 call On August 2, 2023, shortly after 10 p.m., Botetourt Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child. Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene in the 2900 block of Blue Ridge Springs Rd. and found there was a young boy who was indeed unresponsive. The Sheriff’s Office said the Dept. of Fire and EMS transported the boy to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Westmoreland man wanted for Stafford murder captured

The manhunt for 29-year-old Darren Jamal Newman of Westmoreland is over. Newman was wanted in Stafford for 2nd degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all charges related to the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old King George man who police have yet to name. According to Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the King George man was found shot in the 100 block of Deacon Rd. after midnight on December 30. He made it to the hospital alive but passed away a short time later. SCSO said detectives “quickly identified as the shooter as Darren Jamal Newman.” Authorities issued a public announcement that he was wanted and began a manhunt. Tyrone Samuel The 7-day trial of Tyrone Samuel, the Northumberland man now convicted of kidnapping and murdered 28-year-old Ahreal Smith was scheduled to begin this week, but trial wasn’t necessary because he pled guilty to both offenses. As previously reported, Smith disappeared from her job at the Little Sue convenience store in Claraville on the night of January 12 after she headed behind the building toward the dumpster with a bag of trash.
