VSP investigating 9-vehicle crash in VA Beach involving unknown vehicle

Virginia State Police confirmed there is an investigation underway into an incident involving an unknown vehicle linked to a 9-vehicle crash in Virginia Beach. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on I-64 East at Indian River Rd. According to VSP, an unknown vehicle “became disabled” in a traffic lane and stopped in the path of traffic. That caused other vehicles to have stop abruptly, and they began crashing into one another, said VSP. Meanwhile, the vehicle that was disabled left the scene, VSP reported. One the individuals involved was injured and transported for treatment. That person’s injuries were non-life-threatening, police said. Newport News woman dies after 3-vehicle crash in Hampton

Virginia State Police confirmed the woman killed in a 3-vehicle crash in Hampton yesterday was 21-year-old Joniyah Marlecah Temple of Newport News. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Temple was heading east on I-64 and her tire blew out at Mercury Boulevard, VSP reported. In response, she overcorrected, which caused her to spin out of control, and she crashed into the jersey wall. VSP said that left her car in the left lane facing oncoming traffic. Ashley Shockley, of Virginia Beach, pulled over onto the shoulder to assist. Meanwhile, Steven Thomas Wagenmann, Sr., of Chesapeake was driving a Chevrolet Express 2500 van, VSP explained. VSP investigating fatal crash in Northumberland

Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Northumberland on Christmas Eve. Details remain limited but VSP said it responded to the incident at about 2 a.m. In Burgess, there as a single-car crash involving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt less than one-third of a mile from the intersection of Rt. 360 and Rt. 200. The car ran off the right side of the road, the westbound side, and struck a tree, VSP reported. The Christmas Eve closure of the intersection at Richmond Road and Rochambeau Drive in James City County was due to a police-involved crash that sent two people to the hospital. According to the findings of a preliminary investigation conducted by Virginia State Police, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a JCC officer was going east on Rt. 60 (Rochambeau Drive) heading through the stop light at Richmond Rd. A pickup truck driven by Marvin Lima-Ortega, disregarded a red light from the left turn lane, cutting in front of the officer, VSP stated. Driver seriously injured in New Kent turn-over crash

The driver of the tractor-trailer that overturned on Pocahontas Trail in New Kent on Tuesday was seriously injured, Virginia State Police Sgt. Jessica Shehan confirmed. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. near the 4100 block of Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) just west of Toe Ink Wayside. Shehan said the driver, Santos Adan Rios Reyes, a 49-year-old Manassas Park man, stated he crashed because he took his eyes off the roadway to grab something inside the vehicle. After he ran off the roadway, he over corrected, overturned and his load spilled in the road. The incident shut down all lanes of Pocahontas Trail eastbound near Toe Ink Wayside with VSP estimating the cleanup to be over 3 hours. Reyes was transported to the hospital. VDOT testing parking space availability app in Northern VA, could expand to Fredericksburg

VDOT is testing the ParkZen app at select parking lots in Northern Virginia and those who participate are eligible for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card. ParkZen is an app that shows the availability of parking spaces in real time. VDOT began testing the app last month. The hope is making it easier to find parking in commuter lots will encourage more people to park and carpool or take public transit. Found: Virginia Beach man accused of hitting state trooper and fleeing the scene

A 23-year-old Virginia Beach man who allegedly hit a state trooper amid a getaway has been found and is in Virginia Beach City Jail. According to Virginia State Police, at approximately 5:16 this morning, troopers attempted to make a reckless driving stop on a blue Dodge Charger that was traveling 125 mph in a 55 mph zone on I-264 East near Laskin Road. The car didn’t stop, VSP claims, and a police chase ensued. The Charger got off the highway on the Birdneck Road exit ramp. When the car made a right on Americus Way, troopers were able to block it in because it’s a dead end road, VSP stated. Ricardo Osiel Avilez Blanco, a 28-year-old Leesburg man extradited back to Virginia for a road rage case, was convicted of attempted malicious wounding and sentenced to 8 years. The incident occurred in October 2023. According to information presented by the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Avilez Blanco was driving a white Chevrolet Camaro and started tailgating a man and his son. In the midst of congested traffic, Avilez Blanco did several “burnouts” around the victim’s vehicle and “aggressively followed” the victim into the parking lot of Heritage High School. One of two hit-and-run drivers in fatal Fauquier crash arrested

An arrest has been made in the case of Garland J. Heddings, a 73-year-old pedestrian killed in Fauquier County after reportedly getting hit on Elk Run Rd. by southbound and northbound hit-and-run drivers. Virginia State Police, which had called on the public to assist in the investigation, announced Dennis D. Dunning, 54, of Catlett, is one of the suspected drivers. VSP said Dunning was located at his residence on Burwell Road in Fauquier and taken into custody on Wednesday, Nov. 13, without incident. Dunning is charged with felony hit-and-run, involuntary manslaughter, and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock. He’s being held at Fauquier Adult Detention Center without bond. Hit & Run tractor-trailer crash kills 93-year-old in Leesburg

Leesburg Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run tractor-trailer incident that claimed the life of a Lovettsville woman. On October 23, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on the Rt. 15 bypass and struck a Chrysler 300 at Fort Evans Road NE, LPD said the preliminary investigation revealed. There were three people in the Chrysler 300. All of them were transported to the hospital, and 93-year-old Monica Lee, a passenger, died from her injuries LPD reported. The driver and other passenger have been released. According to LPD, the truck didn’t remain at the scene and was later found abandoned in the 1000 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE.
