Orlando man crashes in Southampton, VA amid police chase

According to Southampton Sheriff’s Office, an incident this weekend near Capron evolved from speeding to police chase to crash before landing a Florida man in jail with no bond. A deputy allegedly clocked 22-year-old Thierry Milien, of Orlando, going 104 mph in a 60 mph zone on Southampton Pkwy. The deputy tried to stop the sedan, but according to SCSO, Milien disregarded the officer continuing at a high rate of speed. Another deputy, who was further ahead, got involved and deployed spike strips. Although the Sheriff’s Office described the deployment as successful, Milien was still reportedly able to continue driving. Traffic delays coming for 2 Middle Peninsula – Northern Neck bridges

Upcoming work will cause delays for drivers using two bridges that connect the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. Downing Bridge Starting tonight, Sept. 18, and continuing through the 20th, VDOT is advising drivers to expect overnight delays when crossing the Downing Bridge between Richmond County and Tappahannock. Due to a scheduled bridge inspection, Rt. 360 running over the bridge will be reduced to a single lane of alternating traffic regulated by an automated flagging device. Work will occur between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. If weather interferes with the planned schedule, additional dates will be announced, VDOT said. Middlesex crash kills 90-year-old & daughter-in-law

The hours-long closure of Rt. 33 in Middlesex on Monday was caused by a fatal head-on collision. Shortly before 4 p.m., 64-year-old Allen Wayne Cash was driving east on Rt. 33 in a 2014 Kia Soul, Virginia State Police reported. He was east of Rt. 17, aka Gloucester Rd., when he crossed the double-solid line and ran head on into a westbound Ford Transit van, the crash investigation found. Charges pending for log truck crash in Middlesex

Charges are pending against the driver in a log truck crash that shut down Rt. 17 southbound in Middlesex on Monday, Virginia State Police confirmed. The single-vehicle crash occurred just south of Forest Chapel. Dominek Broaddus, of Tappahannock, lost control of the 2000 Peterbilt, ran off the road, and the truck overturned, VSP reported. Broaddus was injured, but VSP described those injuries as non-life-threatening. The southbound lanes in the area were shut down for hours. Truck crash leaves trailer standing upright in New Kent

A single vehicle trailer-trailer crash shut down part of I-64 West in New Kent for hours on Thursday. According to VSP, at about 9:30 a.m., the truck was heading westbound when, at the 200 mile marker, the raised bed hit the overhead traffic sign. VSP said the bed separated from the cab and remained upright against the damaged highway sign. Virginia’s State Corporation Commission denied the requests to hike toll rates on Dulles Greenway and to change the process for rate hike applications. The Greenway is a privately-owned, 14-mile toll road in northern Virginia that runs through Loudoun County connecting Leesburg to Washington DC. Its owner, Toll Road Investors Partnership II, aka TRIP II, filed an application for increases to congestion and off-peak tolls. Whereas the rate for a car is currently $5.80 and $5.25, respectively, for peak and off-peak travel, TRIP II wanted to hike those rates to $8.10 and $6.40. Cape Charles woman killed in Northampton crash

An 85-year-old Cape Charles woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Eastern Shore this morning. According to Virginia State Police, Nadine Marie Good was driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta headed north on Rt. 13, aka Lankford Highway, in Northampton County. She was north of Cobb Station Road in Cheriton when she reportedly lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road around 9 a.m. Good hit a culvert and tree before the vehicle flipped. She was thrown from the vehicle’s passenger side and died at the scene. VSP said there is not indication that alcohol or speed were contributing factors. Essex man killed in early morning crash

This morning, the southbound lanes of Rt. 17, aka Tidewater Trail, in the Caret area of Essex were shut down for hours due to a fatal crash that’s now under investigation by Virginia State Police. At 4:40 a.m., VSP was dispatched to the scene at Supply Road and Tidewater Trail where there was a two-vehicle crash involving a 2018 Chevrolet pickup and a tractor-trailer. According to VSP, the pickup driver, 61-year-old Danny William Holmes, failed to stop at the stop sign and hit the tractor-tractor trailer, which was heading south on Tidewater Trail. Holmes, an Essex resident, died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who wasn’t named, was injured, but VSP said the injuries were non-life-threatening. Fredericksburg: 24-hour lane closures in Southpoint Pkwy area through Sept.

Lanes closures have been imposed at the intersection of Rt. 1 in Fredericksburg, and they will remain in effect 24 hours a day through mid-September. VDOT is advising drivers to use alternate routes if possible. Those who can’t avoid the Southpoint Parkway area are advised to prepare for delays on Southpoint Parkway and northbound Route 1, especially during peak travel periods.
