Stolen vehicle arrest leads to discovery of dead women in Manassas

An investigation involving a stolen vehicle in Shenandoah County led to the discovery of what appears to be a double murder in Manassas. Prince William calls On Tuesday, April 2, at 12:45 a.m., Prince William County Police received two calls. One was for a report of a man with a gun in the area of 8100 block of Porter Ridge Ln. in Manassas, said PWCPD. The other call was a 61-year-old man who reported he was carjacked in the 8100 block of Portwood Turn in Manassas. Truck driver killed in hit-and-run on I-81 in Shenandoah, VSP wants info

Virginia State Police is seeking information related to a hit-and-run that killed a truck driver in Shenandoah County. According to VSP, James W. Carr, Jr. a 64-year-old Alton, NH man was hit by an unknown vehicle on Saturday, March 23, on I-81 at the 296-mile marker. Police say the crash occurred between 5:00 – 8:12 a.m. Carr was a pedestrian and was in the roadway when he was hit by a northbound vehicle that didn’t stop. VSP has not provided any explanation for why Carr in the road. From the investigation, VSP determined that Carr had been driving a red 2022 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer with Crete Carrier Corp. on the sides. Hampton Roads Regional Jail closes down

Virginia has one less jail. As of yesterday, Hampton Roads Regional Jail is officially closed. The facility at 2690 Elmhurst Lane in Portsmouth opened in 1998, and before closing, it was used to house inmates from Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, and Portsmouth. HHRJ's cells have been empty since March 20. Inmates were moved to their home jurisdictions. The HHRJ Board voted to pay off a $14 million bond, and the April 1 closure, which was announced in November, marked the final day for the jail, Kelly Curry, executive assistant at HHRJ told Wavy 10 Norfolk. A 33-year-old Blue Ridge man has been charged with the murder of a 5-year-old boy last summer. 911 call On August 2, 2023, shortly after 10 p.m., Botetourt Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child. A 25-year-old Newport News woman died after crashing at the scene of a crash on I-64 in James City County. Shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Virginia State Police said called started coming in reporting an older model Toyota was driving the wrong way in the I-64 eastbound lanes and was near the 227 mile marker. Virginia Beach pilot runs off runway in Chesapeake

Virginia State Police were called to investigate a plane crash at Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake yesterday. The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. James M. Biggs of Virginia Beach was piloting a Cessna 170A when, according to VSP, he lost control of the aircraft and ran off the airstrip. The plane ended up in the grass on its side with a damaged wing and landing gear. No passengers were reported, and VSP said Biggs was not injured. VSP did not announce any charges and has not yet disclosed details about a possible cause. Chesapeake Fire also responded to the scene. Henrico County Police has generated quite a buzz with its announcement about a “Calls for Service Reduction Plan” that went into effect Monday, March 18. Under the plan, Henrico officers will change how they responds to certain types of calls and will stop responding to some calls altogether. According to Henrico Police Chief Eric English, in the past, the department’s officers have been put in positions to respond to calls where they have no legal authority. A 53-year-old Charlotte man wanted in connection with a Huntersville, NC homicide was captured in Alexandria and is awaiting extradition. On Tuesday, March 19, Huntersville Police reported that officers responded to a scene where a woman was said to be unresponsive in a vehicle on Hylas Lane. College Park, MD man hit with +20 charges after Virginia police chase

A College Park, MD man is in jail in Fairfax  facing a list of charges after allegedly leading Virginia state troopers on a police chase. The incident occurred Sunday, March 17. State troopers had been alerted that a stolen vehicle may pass along Rt. 1 in Fairfax.
