Henrico Police announce plan to reduce response to calls

Henrico County Police has generated quite a buzz with its announcement about a “Calls for Service Reduction Plan” that went into effect Monday, March 18. Under the plan, Henrico officers will change how they responds to certain types of calls and will stop responding to some calls altogether. According to Henrico Police Chief Eric English, in the past, the department’s officers have been put in positions to respond to calls where they have no legal authority. That has prevented officers from responding to priority calls in a timely and efficient manner. It’s also led to a lack of available units. Alexandria Police capture NC homicide suspect

A 53-year-old Charlotte man wanted in connection with a Huntersville, NC homicide was captured in Alexandria and is awaiting extradition. On Tuesday, March 19, Huntersville Police reported that officers responded to a scene where a woman was said to be unresponsive in a vehicle on Hylas Lane. The responding officers found the woman, 55-year-old Sureita Angelia Samuels of Huntersville, had been shot, and she was pronounced dead. Witnesses reportedly told HPD they heard gunshots then saw a Black man get out of Samuels’ car immediately afterward. They reported that the man got into a black Dodge Ram and left. College Park, MD man hit with +20 charges after Virginia police chase

A College Park, MD man is in jail in Fairfax  facing a list of charges after allegedly leading Virginia state troopers on a police chase. The incident occurred Sunday, March 17. State troopers had been alerted that a stolen vehicle may pass along Rt. 1 in Fairfax. As warned, a state trooper spotted the stolen vehicle at about 3:40 a.m. and activated his emergency lights and siren with plans to conduct a traffic stop, VSP reported. 18-year-old leads police chase, hits 3 vehicles in Fairfax

Virginia State Police announced an investigation into an 18-year-old who was reportedly involved in a police pursuit and a three-vehicle crash in Fairfax. The incident started around 11:19 p.m on Thursday, March 14, when, according to VSP, they attempted to stop a speeding grey Honda Odyssey heading westbound on I-495. When police initially attempted the stop, the Odyssey was approaching I-95 South. The minivan reportedly refused to stop, and the pursuit initiated. According to VSP, amid the chase, the Odyssey struck an unspecified vehicle near the exit for Route 1 but didn’t stop. The 22-year-old Port Royal man wanted for stabbing his co-worker in Stafford was found and arrested this week. Stafford County Sheriff’s Office had been looking for Leonard Pratt, Jr. since March 8. On that Friday, at around 1:40 p.m., Deputy C.S. Harding responded to an assault call at Genesis Logistics on Bradburn Place. The caller reported that two employees got into a fight in the warehouse. One of those individuals got stabbed and was taken to the hospital. Pratt, who is accused of stabbing him, left the scene before police arrived. According to LPD, the body was discovered in the pond behind Park Gate Drive SE by a community member around 4:30 p.m. on March 11. Woodbridge man charged for death of Newport News man in Fairfax

Virginia State have announced charges against a Woodbridge man accused of killing a pedestrian in a fatal crash on I-495 west in Fairfax on Sunday, March 10. At around 3:30 a.m., Gregory B,. Bruington, Jr., a 30-year-old Newport News man, was on the left shoulder of the highway at the 175-mile marker changing the tire on a 2017 VW Golf. Carlos Lisandro Nunez-Morales was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram when he ran off the road to the left and hit Bruington, VSP reported. Bruington died at the scene.
