Missing Virginia teen found in Florida

Six days after 17-year-old Mitchell Harrison Leahey disappeared in Henrico County, VA authorities said he was found safe in Florida.

His parents told WTVR CBS 6 they picked him up from work and went to a family therapy session that “kicked up some hard stuff and he was upset and left.” The couple claimed they chased Leahey “for a while” but he hopped a fence and was gone.

Leahey who reportedly worked as a counselor at Oak Hill Christian Service Camp, had “nothing on him. No phone, wallet, no debit card, no cash, not even a jacket,” his parents said.

Leahey’s parents told WTVR he was just a scared kid having a bad day and wasn’t a danger. In the CODI alert, VSP said he was possibly in possession of a pocket knife. And VSP added the investigating agency determined his disappearance poses a credible threat to his health and safety.

During the days while Leahey was missing, a significant search was conducted locally and an effort was launched on social media to raise awareness and locate him. His parents announced a $100,000 award.

On the evening of December 26, Henrico Police announced Leahey was found in Collier County, FL and is in the process of being united with his family.

Authorities have not announced how or with whom Leahey was found.
