Augusta woman wanted for murder arrested in Harrisonburg SWAT operation

A 22-year-old woman from Augusta who was wanted for murder in Nelson County was arrested Monday afternoon during a coordinated SWAT operation in Harrisonburg. Katelynn Ann Hipes was taken into custody without incident after the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD), working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Task Force, executed a search warrant at a residence on Lee Avenue. The arrest followed a days-long hunt for her stemming from the April 18th shooting of Kevin Scott Small in Shipman. Police seeking tips for fatal shooting of 19-year-old in Alexandria

Authorities are calling on the public for help as they pursue leads in the murder of a 19-year-old who was fatally shot Saturday night in Alexandria. The victim, identified as Deaundre Jack, was a resident of Alexandria. According to the Alexandria Police Department (APD), Jack was found in the parking lot of the Canterbury Square apartment complex suffering from multiple gunshot wounds around 10:15 p.m. on April 19. Responding officers began life-saving measures immediately upon arrival, but Jack succumbed to his injuries after Alexandria Fire Department medics took over care. APD is awaiting the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine the official cause and manner of death. On August 8, 2023, when Newport News Police responded to a shots fired call in the 400 block of Stallings Court, three men were found inside a residence dead. The victims were Alvin Eugene Holiday, 61, and Monroe McGilvary Jr., 60, both from Williamsburg, along with Derek Rico Jones, a 36-year-old from Newport News. Williams admitted he coerced boys across numerous states to produce pornographic material between 2021 and 2024. He relied heavily on services, such as Snapchat and Telegram, to communicate with the boys and paid them through a variety of means, including CashApp, PayPal, in-app purchases, and, in at least one case, mailing a debit card, federal documents revealed. Virginia State troopers were injured in two separate police pursuits last weekend. On Friday, April 12, around 2:30 p.m. Chesapeake Police Department was advised of a police pursuit coming their way that originated in Elizabeth City, NC. Chesapeake PD said they were informed the suspect had already hit an Elizabeth City police vehicle. Chesapeake PD, in turn, reached out to Virginia State Police. When the Lexus RX350 crossed into Chesapeake, Chesapeake Police joined the pursuit and reported successfully deploying spike strips. On Thursday, authorities spent hours trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution with a Ruther Glen man who allegedly barricaded himself in a home after shooting at a woman. Around 1 a.m. that morning, a “frantic” woman called 911 and claimed amid a verbal altercation with 45-year-old Shane Stevens, she fled to her vehicle and tried to leave, and he fired a handgun at her, Caroline County Sheriff’s Office reported. The woman, who wasn’t named also reported that, in addition to being armed, Stevens was wearing a bulletproof vest. Alexandria, VA man facing attempted murder for Maryland road rage shooting

An Alexandria, VA man is facing attempted murder and a list of other charged stemming from an alleged case of road rage. On Thursday, April 3, Maryland State Police responded to a report of a shooting on Route 5 in near Burch Hill Road in Prince George’s County.  The victim, who was uninjured, reported that a driver in a 2023 black Ford Explorer with Michigan tags shot at him. MSP said that driver was determined to be 46-year-old Marco Williams. A US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Maryland State Apprehension Team arrested Williams in Fairfax on April 9. Zeon Detwan Garner was sentenced for the 3-person shooting that occurred on May 30 in the the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE in Leesburg. That evening, Garner was with his mother and sister, and they encountered three people in the courtyard of the apartment complex. According to Leesburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Garner had an ongoing issue with one of those individuals, and one of them allegedly brandished a firearm as Garner passed with his family. A 28-year-old man is being held without bond in Rappahannock Regional Jail after three alleged incidents of sexual misconduct within a short timeframe on March 29. Fredericksburg officers were dispatched to a scene where a man was reported to be exposing himself to Girl Scouts who were selling cookies. Two adults and a juvenile are facing charges in Patrick County for a severe attack of a 17-year-old on March 21st. According to Patrick County Sheriff, Dan Smith, the teenage victim was at a friend’s home in Elamsville. Freddie Lee Kendrick Jr, 22, and Amber Mary Kendrick, 24, went to pick up a 15-year-old and the three went to the victim’s location. Kendrick Jr. allegedly commanded the 15-year-old to attack the 17-year-old.
