Two men have been arrested in a case involving fake money in Richmond County. On April 29, Donte Steffon Sutton, a 28-year-old of Weems, was charged with knowingly possessing counterfeit money and two counts of soliciting an adult to utter forged currency knowing it was forged. Surprise Lead: Fredericksburg Police get gun linked to 2017 case

Fredericksburg Police Dept. got an unlikely break in a 2017 investigation. The Rappahannock Canal was drained recently, and on April 27, a firearm was uncovered in the drained section, FPD said. The gun was rusted, heavily damaged, and the serial number was “deliberately obliterated.” Detectives Mejia and Dobson went to work examining the gun and used advanced restoration techniques to recover the serial number. Deric Lee Jr., a 42-year-old murder suspect, got away after allegedly leading police on a chase through four Hampton Roads cities, but he was captured less than a day a later. On April 30, at about 10 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the 3600 block of Harbinger Rd. for a shooting where they found a victim, 63-year-old Regina Banks of Virginia Beach, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities are calling on the public for help as they pursue leads in the murder of a 19-year-old who was fatally shot Saturday night in Alexandria. The victim, identified as Deaundre Jack, was a resident of Alexandria. According to the Alexandria Police Department (APD), Jack was found in the parking lot of the Canterbury Square apartment complex suffering from multiple gunshot wounds around 10:15 p.m. on April 19. On Friday, April 12, around 2:30 p.m. Chesapeake Police Department was advised of a police pursuit coming their way that originated in Elizabeth City, NC. Chesapeake PD said they were informed the suspect had already hit an Elizabeth City police vehicle. Chesapeake PD, in turn, reached out to Virginia State Police. On Thursday, authorities spent hours trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution with a Ruther Glen man who allegedly barricaded himself in a home after shooting at a woman. Around 1 a.m. that morning, a “frantic” woman called 911 and claimed amid a verbal altercation with 45-year-old Shane Stevens, she fled to her vehicle and tried to leave, and he fired a handgun at her, Caroline County Sheriff’s Office reported.
