A woman and dog were stabbed in Herndon, and the man accused of wielding the knife was shot. HPD said officers established contact with the suspect and he "approached" a responding officer with a knife. That officer shot the man, hitting him in the upper body, the department added. Car trouble in Stafford led to the arrest of a man wanted in Maryland. On Thursday, April 11, First Sergeant N. Zotos was heading south on Richmond Highway near Layhill Rd. when, at around 5:45 a.m., he reportedly saw a car that was leaking fluid. Since the car was disabled in one of the lanes of Richmond Rd., Zotos was concerned about the possibility of an accident and approached the driver, SCSO reported. During that interaction, Zotos “discovered additional troubles” and Deputy C.S. Harding was called to the scene. No bond was granted for the Knoxville, TN man charged amid a fatal DUI crash in Frederick County on Monday. Virginia State Police said they responded to the scene on I-81 at the 316 mile marker shortly before 11 p.m. Troopers found a 2018 Toyota Highlander reportedly driven by 54-year-old Kenneth Bireta was traveling north on I-81 when it ran off the left side of the road into the median. The Highlander flipped several time, and when it came to a rest, it was in the southbound lanes, VSP reported.
