Newport News man received kilos of cocaine via UPS found guilty, awaiting sentencing

A Newport News man is facing 5 to 40 years in prison after a federal jury found him guilty in a case where he received 2 kilos of cocaine via UPS. Last August, 33-year-old James Arthur Scott sat in a rental car in a parking lot in Hampton and waited for over an hour and a half for a UPS package from California, court documents and evidence from his trial revealed. That parcel, which was addressed to “Lit Wick” contained several layers of packaging and had two shoeboxes filled with wax. Inside the wax, there was a kilo of cocaine in each box. Law enforcement agents had intercepted the parcel at the UPS facility in Newport News and organized a controlled delivery. Man & Woman charged for business burglaries in Loudoun

Two Purcellville residents are accused of burglarizing businesses in Loudoun County. According to Leesburg PD, on Thursday, January 18, its officers were dispatched to a business on North King Street for a report of a burglary. A representative of the affected business reported that shortly before 3:00 a.m., a male and a female entered the closed business and stole property. LPD said through an investigation, they determined the two suspects involved were 46-year-old Samuel Jenkins III and Abigail Laura, age 38. Middlesex man wanted in Mathews

UPDATE: Langford was arrested on February 13th without incident by Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and was subsequently held without bond. A Middlesex man is wanted in Mathews after allegedly making a successful getaway. Mathews County Sheriff’s Office reported that one of its deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2011 Black Ford Focus on Tuesday, January 30. The deputy was initially attempting to stop the car for going an excessive speed on Twiggs Ferry Road in the area of Dixie Drive, MCSO explained. A joint investigation between Alexandria Police and Child Protective Services is underway after a little girl was reportedly “abandoned” on South Van Dorn Street Wednesday night. It was approximately 9:45 p.m. when police responded to witness reports that a man left a child in front of 8 South Van Dorn Street, says APD. Officers found a little girl that they estimated was between 1 to 2 years old. She was “dressed in warm clothing and in apparent good health,” but no one in the area claimed to know the child or who she belonged to, the department statement. Threats lead to evacuation of Alexandria, VA elementary school

Wednesday, an Alexandria, VA elementary school was evacuated amid a series of “false threats” that are now being investigated as swatting incidents, according to the police department. After receiving a call “of someone going to the school with guns” APD said it responded to Charles Barrett Elementary at 12:04 p.m. with officers, K9s, and SWAT and began searching the school. In a letter to families, the Charles Barrett principal, Loren Brody, said the school first went into “secure the building” status. Woman wanted for fatal Norfolk crash now in custody

Dominique Goodwin, the Chesapeake woman wanted for the fatal wrong-way tunnel crash in Norfolk, turned herself in Monday morning, VSP reported. Goodwin was wanted for aggravated involuntary manslaughter after an incident in the early hours of December 30. According to VSP, she was driving her Volkswagen eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Downtown Tunnel when she crashed head-on with a Chevy Equinox driven by Shelby Riddick Walker of Portsmouth. Riddick, 43, was killed instantly, authorities say. Virginia State Police had been looking for Goodwin for weeks to no avail. They had even issued a public appeal for information on her whereabouts. Charges filed in 2 drug cases at Deerfield Correctional Center

Southampton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric A. Cooke filed indictments against suspects for two separate drug seizures at Deerfield Correctional Center. Both incidents date back to last summer. According to VADOC, on August 12, Mary Margaret Marchio came to Deerfield to visit inmate Leopold T. Ashe. After visitation, Ashe was searched and was reportedly found to have surgical mask containing suspected drugs. VADOC Drug Task Force launched an investigation, and the department determined that Marchio and Ashe were allegedly conspiring to traffic drugs into the facility during their visit. Cooke charged both with two counts of possession of unlawful controlled substances, possession of Buprenorphine and Naloxone (Schedule III), and delivery of drugs, firearms, explosives, etc....

Virginia State Police asking for tips on wanted Chesapeake woman

Virginia State Police is asking for the public’s help to locate a 27-year-old Chesapeake woman wanted for allegedly causing a fatal crash. On December 30, in the early hours, Dominique Chi'qura Goodwin was driving a 2018 Volkswagen heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-64 in Norfolk and crashed head-on into a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, according to VSP. The Equinox was driven Shelby Riddick Walker of Portsmouth who was killed instantly, authorities say. Goodwin is facing an aggravated involuntary manslaughter charge. Two teens were charged following a “juvenile DUI crash,” Stafford Sheriff’s Office announced. The incident occurred in January 14 at the intersection of Countryside Drive and Stony Hill Road. SCSO said a passerby reported an accident and deputy N.J. Amato responded shortly before 2 a.m. and found a Honda Civic that had crashed into a tree, but there were no occupants at the scene. Amato found empty cans of alcoholic beverages near the vehicle, and while he was investigating an unnamed male came to the scene and reported that his daughter was involved in the crash, SCSO stated.
