2 VA troopers injured in 2 separate police pursuits last weekend

Virginia State troopers were injured in two separate police pursuits last weekend. On Friday, April 12, around 2:30 p.m. Chesapeake Police Department was advised of a police pursuit coming their way that originated in Elizabeth City, NC. Chesapeake PD said they were informed the suspect had already hit an Elizabeth City police vehicle. Chesapeake PD, in turn, reached out to Virginia State Police. When the Lexus RX350 crossed into Chesapeake, Chesapeake Police joined the pursuit and reported successfully deploying spike strips. Tractor-trailer kills pedestrian on I-664 in Suffolk

The Commonwealth’s Attorney in Suffolk will determine whether or not to file charges against Demarquese Larnell Hayes, the truck driver involved in the fatal crash on I-664 South in Suffolk on Tuesday, March 4. According to Virginia State Police, it appears 39-year-old Corey L. B. Knight was driving a 2023 Volkswagen GTI, pulled over on the right shoulder of I-664 at College Drive, and got out. Hayes came along in a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer and drifted onto the shoulder striking Knight and the Volkswagen, killing Knight immediately, said VSP. Mother and 3 children killed in murder/suicide in Chesapeake

Chesapeake Police Department revealed that those killed in a February 6th “murder/suicide” were a mother and her three children. CPD reported that at approximately 6:54 a.m. on Thursday morning, officers responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 3000 block of Welcome Road. The officers made contact with the occupant who was barricaded and armed, according to police. According to CPD, officers immediately established a perimeter and attempted to negotiate. Meanwhile, SWAT and hostage negotiators were dispatched to the scene. Hampton man wanted for federal gun charges arrested after police chase

A high-speed chase on I-64 yesterday ended in a crash and the arrest of a suspect wanted for federal gun charges, Virginia State Police revealed. The incident began around 4:51 p.m. when law enforcement officers attempted to pull over a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro for improper registration. The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Evan Devon Boyd Jr., refused to stop, sparking a pursuit near the 262-mile marker on I-64 west, VSP reported. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel project has reached a major milestone. Chessie, the tunnel boring machine that was clearing the way, completed her mining mission this week. CBBT is adding a new two-lane tunnel that’s about a mile long. Chessie started working in February 2023, but in May 2023, she hit an obstruction that CBBT announced was a ship’s anchor made in England at the turn of the 20th century. Chessie was out of work for 8 months while it was removed. In May 2024, Chessie returned to work pushing along at an average of about 50 feet a day, according to the CBBT. VSP investigating 9-vehicle crash in VA Beach involving unknown vehicle

Virginia State Police confirmed there is an investigation underway into an incident involving an unknown vehicle linked to a 9-vehicle crash in Virginia Beach. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on I-64 East at Indian River Rd. According to VSP, an unknown vehicle “became disabled” in a traffic lane and stopped in the path of traffic. That caused other vehicles to have stop abruptly, and they began crashing into one another, said VSP. Meanwhile, the vehicle that was disabled left the scene, VSP reported. One the individuals involved was injured and transported for treatment. That person’s injuries were non-life-threatening, police said. Newport News woman dies after 3-vehicle crash in Hampton

Virginia State Police confirmed the woman killed in a 3-vehicle crash in Hampton yesterday was 21-year-old Joniyah Marlecah Temple of Newport News. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Temple was heading east on I-64 and her tire blew out at Mercury Boulevard, VSP reported. In response, she overcorrected, which caused her to spin out of control, and she crashed into the jersey wall. VSP said that left her car in the left lane facing oncoming traffic. VSP asking public to submit info about shooting on I-64 in Norfolk

Virginia State Police is asking the public to reach out with any information about a vehicle or potential shooters involved in a shooting on I-64 in Norfolk on Saturday, Jan. 25. At approximately 3:14 p.m. a male called the state police communication center reporting he was involved in a shooting. According to VSP, its preliminary investigations revealed the victim was heading west in a blue Kia Stinger near Norview Avenue. An “unknown vehicle” began shooting, prompted the Stinger driver to get off the interstate at Chesapeake Boulevard. The US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) is working to keep 36-year-old Brad Kenneth Spafford in custody after claiming the search of his farm in Smithfield led to what may be “the largest seizure by number of finished explosive devices in FBI history.” Spafford was arrested on December 17 and charged with a single count of possession of an unregistered short-barrel rifle. However, federal court documents show, in addition to that gun, the FBI located more than 150 homemade improvised explosive devices deemed as pipe bombs.
