SCC blocks attempt to hike tolls on Dulles Greenway

Virginia’s State Corporation Commission denied the requests to hike toll rates on Dulles Greenway and to change the process for rate hike applications. The Greenway is a privately-owned, 14-mile toll road in northern Virginia that runs through Loudoun County connecting Leesburg to Washington DC. Its owner, Toll Road Investors Partnership II, aka TRIP II, filed an application for increases to congestion and off-peak tolls. Whereas the rate for a car is currently $5.80 and $5.25, respectively, for peak and off-peak travel, TRIP II wanted to hike those rates to $8.10 and $6.40. An investigation is underway after another group of New Yorkers were arrested for “organized retail theft incidents” in northern Virginia stores, Leesburg Police Department announced. On Sunday, LPD arrested 10 people at the scene of one of their alleged hits. It was about 5:30 p.m. when LPD responded to Target at 1200 Edwards Ferry Road NE. LPD said it was reported that a group of individuals took merchandise from the store, left, and divided up into two vehicles. Those vehicles were stopped as they were leaving the parking lot and large amounts of Target merchandise was found, LPD confirmed. New Loudoun judge arrested for public intoxication

A week after being sworn in as a judge for Virginia’s 20th Judicial District, Charles F. Koehler, Jr. was arrested by Leesburg Police Department. According to LPD, at 1:30 this morning, officers responded to a report of an individual walking down the Leesburg Bypass near South King Street. That individual was reportedly Koehler. LPD said after officers interacted with him, he was arrested and charged for public intoxication. Koehler was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and was released on his own recognizance, LPD stated. Koehler is a sitting judge in Loudoun. Stafford police looking for man suspected in stabbing case

Stafford County police are looking for the suspect in an August 20 stabbing in Crystal Lake Mobile Home Park. That morning, shortly after 5 a.m., a call came in reporting the incident. By the time police arrived, the suspect, identified as Jamie Flores, had fled the scene, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported. Authorities didn’t give an estimated time that the stabbing occurred, but said Flores had a lengthy head start on his escape. The victim, who hasn’t been identified, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Alexandria welfare check leaves man dead, officer on leave

Alexandria Police Department revealed a welfare check turned fatal on Tuesday. According to APD, at around 10:45 p.m., a man called requesting a welfare check for a co-worker at 5101 Maris Ave. He reportedly stated that his co-worker had made statements about harming himself and was armed with at least two guns. APD said the officers that responded included some with specialized intervention and negotiation training. State Police in Maryland and Virginia have launched investigations after a Virginia Beach man allegedly stabbed two people, abducted his three children, and then killed the youngest in a fatal crash across state lines. According to Virginia Beach Police Department, a call came in at about 8:48 p.m. reporting a stabbing in the 900 block of Jay Are Court. Three men were arrested on Centreport Parkway after a high-speed chase that left a Stafford officer injured. Around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, First Sergeant A.I. Assur saw a wanted suspect in a black Honda Civic on Kings Highway, Stafford County Sheriff stated. But because he was unable to make a traffic stop at that time, he alerted other Stafford officers and Virgina State Police. Deputy J.W. Herndon Police Department announced two arrests for a string of burglaries and larcenies. On July 12, Herndon PD announced a church was broken into twice over the span of a couple days. Surveillance images of two suspects were released, and police urged anyone with information or who could identify the males to reach out. US Marshals catch murder suspect 8 months after Prince William shooting

The US Marshals Service caught the Fredericksburg man who was wanted in Prince William for the murder of 26-year-old Quatrail Raynard Smalls of Big Stone Gap. As  previously reported, on November 14, Prince William County Police found Smalls shot in the 3700 block of Wharf Lane in Triangle. He survived the trip to the hospital but later died. The following day, PWCPD announced Tyus James Terrell, a 27-year-old Fredericksburg man, as the suspect. To address antitrust concerns raised by state and federal regulators, the companies agreed to sell assets to C&S Wholesale Grocers, the parent company of Piggly Wiggly. On Tuesday, the companies revealed which stores, plants, and distribution centers are in the divestment plan.
