State Police in Maryland and Virginia have launched investigations after a Virginia Beach man allegedly stabbed two people, abducted his three children, and then killed the youngest in a fatal crash across state lines.
According to Virginia Beach Police Department, a call came in at about 8:48 p.m. reporting a stabbing in the 900 block of Jay Are Court. When police arrived, they found a woman and female child were both suffering from multiple stab wounds.
They were transported to the hospital, VBPD stated.
The preliminary investigation suggested the incident was “domestic-related,” said VBPD, and detectives secured warrants for Plummer. The charges include two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of parental abduction, four counts of contributing to delinquency of a minor, and domestic assault.
At approximately 2 a.m., Virginia Beach Police requested Virginia State Police issue an AMBER Alert.
VSP announced Dana Demetrius Plummer, the 36-year-old stabbing suspect, was believed to have abducted his three children Zayir Plummer, 5, Zayin Plummer, 7, and Za’riyah Plummer, 16 months.
He was believed to be in a black 2024 Honda Passport SUV, the alert stated.

According to VBPD, around 8:45 this morning, a citizen claimed to have spotted the suspect vehicle.
VSP reported they attempted to stop the vehicle at about that time as it was headed north on I-95 near the 166 mile marker in Fairfax.
Plummer reportedly refused to stop, and VSP said he led them on a chase that crossed into Maryland.
Maryland State Police reported getting a call from VSP for assistance with an AMBER Alert pursuit shortly before 9 a.m.
Plummer reportedly crossed the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. With Virginia and Maryland police in pursuit, he continued northbound on I-495, according to MSP, and he attempted to take the ramp from I-495 North to southbound Route 5/Branch Avenue where he crashed into other vehicles, causing his vehicle to overturn. A total of three vehicles were involved in the crash, said MSP.
The children were still in the vehicle, and Maryland State Police Aviation Command flew 16-month-old Za’riyah to Children’s National Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to MSP.
The other two children were ground-transported to the same hospital. And Plummer was transported by ground to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.
VSP is leading the investigation on the pursuit. MSP is leading the investigation on the crash.
Maryland authorities said they also have charges pending against Plummer pursuant to their investigation and consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.
As of this afternoon, the woman and girl stabbed were in stable condition, according to an update from VBPD.
MSP said no occupants were injured in the other vehicles impacted by the crash.
