Maryland couple to be extradited to VA for larceny charges in Leesburg

Leesburg Police Department is waiting for a Maryland couple to be extradited back to Virginia to face felony charges related to a shoplifting incident that occurred last year. LPD officers were dispatched to the Ulta on Village Market Blvd, on October 27, a Friday. It was reported that around 3 p.m. a man and woman came in and stole over $6,400 worth of merchandise, the department stated. LPD launched an investigation and identified the suspects as 29-year-old Roxana Dumitru and 30-year-old Ionut-Robert Ionescu. Both are residents of Laurel, MD. Each of them has been charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of larceny with the intent to sell. A Newport News man is facing 5 to 40 years in prison after a federal jury found him guilty in a case where he received 2 kilos of cocaine via UPS. Last August, 33-year-old James Arthur Scott sat in a rental car in a parking lot in Hampton and waited for over an hour and a half for a UPS package from California, court documents and evidence from his trial revealed. That parcel, which was addressed to “Lit Wick” contained several layers of packaging and had two shoeboxes filled with wax. Inside the wax, there was a kilo of cocaine in each box. Law enforcement agents had intercepted the parcel at the UPS facility in Newport News and organized a controlled delivery. Two Purcellville residents are accused of burglarizing businesses in Loudoun County. According to Leesburg PD, on Thursday, January 18, its officers were dispatched to a business on North King Street for a report of a burglary. A representative of the affected business reported that shortly before 3:00 a.m., a male and a female entered the closed business and stole property. A Middlesex man is wanted in Mathews after allegedly making a successful getaway. Mathews County Sheriff’s Office reported that one of its deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2011 Black Ford Focus on Tuesday, January 30. The deputy was initially attempting to stop the car for going an excessive speed on Twiggs Ferry Road in the area of Dixie Drive, MCSO explained. Woman wanted for fatal Norfolk crash now in custody

Dominique Goodwin, the Chesapeake woman wanted for the fatal wrong-way tunnel crash in Norfolk, turned herself in Monday morning, VSP reported. Goodwin was wanted for aggravated involuntary manslaughter after an incident in the early hours of December 30. According to VSP, she was driving her Volkswagen eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Downtown Tunnel when she crashed head-on with a Chevy Equinox driven by Shelby Riddick Walker of Portsmouth. Riddick, 43, was killed instantly, authorities say. Virginia State Police had been looking for Goodwin for weeks to no avail. They had even issued a public appeal for information on her whereabouts. Charges filed in 2 drug cases at Deerfield Correctional Center

Southampton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric A. Cooke filed indictments against suspects for two separate drug seizures at Deerfield Correctional Center. Both incidents date back to last summer. According to VADOC, on August 12, Mary Margaret Marchio came to Deerfield to visit inmate Leopold T. Ashe. After visitation, Ashe was searched and was reportedly found to have surgical mask containing suspected drugs. VADOC Drug Task Force launched an investigation, and the department determined that Marchio and Ashe were allegedly conspiring to traffic drugs into the facility during their visit. Cooke charged both with two counts of possession of unlawful controlled substances, possession of Buprenorphine and Naloxone (Schedule III), and delivery of drugs, firearms, explosives, etc....

Two teens were charged following a “juvenile DUI crash,” Stafford Sheriff’s Office announced. The incident occurred in January 14 at the intersection of Countryside Drive and Stony Hill Road. Prince William County Police are trying to piece together what happened to cause a Woodbridge man to shoot his wife, and they’re asking for the public’s help. The shooting occurred on January 6. PWPD reported that, at around 5 p.m., its officers were dispatched to an area hospital where 24-year-old Desire Alexandria Buggs had been brought in suffering from a gunshot and later died. From the preliminary investigation, PWPD said they were able to determine that it was her husband, 24-year-old Daniel Okoe Lawson, who brought Buggs to the hospital. Fonseca responded to a business alarm at 198 Tyler Von Way, the address of Auto Chiefs, they found not only signs of a break-in there but also at Carplug next door, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported.
