Retail theft crews from NJ & NY get busted in Fairfax, VA

In less than a week, Tyson’s Urban Team, aka TUT, made two busts of individuals they describe as members of organized theft crews. During those incidents, the accused were reportedly caught with tens of thousands of dollars of merchandise. When they located the men, police found over $24,000 in merchandise, and most of it was Victoria’s Secret underwear, said Fairfax PD’s Public Affairs Bureau. The merchandise was connected to thefts that occurred in Prince William County, the Public Affairs Bureau noted. Regulations on more VA counties after deer chronic wasting infections found

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged for the murder of another 16-year-old. According to Virginia Beach Police Department, the incident occurred in the afternoon on Tuesday. 2 Charged with Murder in Norfolk After ‘Homicide’ Ruling for Infant Death

A pair in Norfolk are facing murder charges after the death of a 9-day-old baby, Norfolk Police announced. On Saturday, around 1:15 p.m., NPD was called to the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters for a child protection call. When officers arrived, the baby was already unresponsive and later the infant was pronounced dead, the department stated. Hilary D. Johnson, 23, and Zibreyea S. Parker, 21, were taken into custody and initially charged with child abuse. Then, on May 6, the medical examiner ruled the baby’s death was a homicide. A 27-year-old man arrested Saturday is still being held without bond after allegedly initiating a police chase, ramming vehicles, and assaulting a state trooper. According to Virginia State Police, the incident stemmed from motorists on I-81 calling in and reporting a Dodge pickup driving recklessly and someone throwing objects out of the window. A twin-engine plane that left Manassas Regional Airport Sunday morning crashed in Fluvanna killing the pilot and his passenger. According to Virginia State Police, shortly before 9 a.m., 911 calls started coming in from residents in the 200 block of Miles Jackson Rd. in Palmyra. They reported a low-flying plane and noise described as sounding like an explosion. Frederick County deputy injured in Shenandoah dump truck crash

Although a charge has already been filed, Virginia State Police is still investigating a crash in Shenandoah County involving a dump truck and a police vehicle at the 292 mile marker. The incident occurred this morning around 5:45 on Interstate 81. According to VSP, 71-year-old Gaylon Miller of Toms Brook, was heading north and accidently engaged the dump bed. The raised dump bed hit the Rt. 646 overpass and detached from the truck. The detached bed slid backwards, said VSP, and landed on a northbound 2022 Ford Explorer belonging to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. Virginia included in beef recall. Do not eat these products, says USDA

USDA is urging shoppers who bought certain batches of ground beef to throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased. Cargill Meat Solutions recalled over 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef due to possible E.coli contamination. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Cargill reported the issue claiming that “previously segregated product had been inadvertently utilized in the production of ground beef.” The affected ground beef was produced on April 26-27 and sold at Walmart, the USDA stated. FSIS said the items were shipped to Walmart locations nationwide. CBS MoneyWatch said Cargill told them the meat was shipped to 13 states. I-64 East on-ramp at Tidewater Dr. in Norfolk to close

Drivers in Norfolk, be advised, the I-64 East on-ramp from Tidewater Drive south is set to shut down as soon as tomorrow, May 2. There will be a long-term detour VDOT announced drivers could see crews start moving in around 8 p.m. The closure is needed to facilitate essential roadway and bridge widening work for the first phase of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Norfolk project. While the on-ramp is closed, a new left turn will be in place at Thole Street to access I-64 east. Signed detour routes will be in place to direct motorists.  Once the on-ramp is closed, VDOT said it isn’t expected to reopen until early 2026.
