Gloucester man prompts Sheriff to issue shelter-in-place alert

Yesterday, a 32-year-old Gloucester man on the loose prompted the Sheriff’s Office to issue a lockdown alert for people in certain areas of the county. Around 11 a.m. GCSO released a photo of Robert Paul Rosell Jr. stating he was believed to be on foot and considered armed and dangerous. People in the area of Lowneyville Lane and Pinetta Road were asked to shelter in place. Until now, GCSO hasn't provided details about the incident that caused them to hunt for Rosell, but, in an update amid the search, police revealed that Rosell was wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and brandishing a firearm. Franklin, VA man wanted for robbery, police trying to identify 2 others

Southampton police are looking for 24-year-old Dalveon Ricks of Franklin who is wanted for charges related to an April 4 robbery in Courtland. Police responded to a robbery call in the 25000 block of Oak Trail and found a woman who reported getting robbed in the parking lot of the apartment complex by three men. SCSO said the victim’s purse, credit cards, and cash were stolen. Virginia State Trooper caused a crash to stop wrong-way driver

A Virginia State Trooper setup a crash to stop a wrong-way driver on I-64. On Saturday, April 20, VSP said multiple reports came in about a wrong-way driver on I-64 near the 256 mile marker. Michael LeSage was one of the troopers who was on the lookout for the vehicle. He told 3WTKR that he saw the vehicle heading toward him. "I knew I was going to have to strike him to stop him from hitting anybody else, so that's what I did. I positioned my car to strike his vehicle; just at the last second I offset my vehicle just enough to lessen the impact for both of us," LeSage explained to the 3WTKR. FBI & VDOT issue warnings about toll text scam

VDOT added its voice to warnings about a toll text scam. Earlier this month, the FBI issued an alert noting that its Internet Crime Complaint Center received over 2,000 complaints since early March about smishing texts involving toll collection services. Smishing is a tactic whereby fake text messages are used to get people to download malware, share sensitive information, or send money to cybercriminals. According to the FBI, the smishing texts in this case  claim the recipient owes money for unpaid tolls and contain almost identical language. The "outstanding toll amount" is similar among the complaints. 18-year-old from Virginia Beach arrested for gun at Gloucester High School

Gloucester High School went into lockdown Tuesday, and two men were arrested in connection with the incident. According to a statement from Gloucester County Public Schools (GCPS), the lockdown was put in place around 11 a.m. in response to a report of a weapon outside in a construction area. In addition to the school resources officers, a larger presence from Gloucester County Sheriff’s officers arrived and had the scene secured within minutes, according to GCSO. A woman and dog were stabbed in Herndon, and the man accused of wielding the knife was shot. All three were receiving medical attention as of the last update provided by Herdon PD. her husbandOn Sunday, April 14, HPD officers responded to the 900 block of First Place shortly before noon after a woman called 911 to report her husband stabbed her. Car trouble in Stafford led to the arrest of a man wanted in Maryland. On Thursday, April 11, First Sergeant N. Zotos was heading south on Richmond Highway near Layhill Rd. when, at around 5:45 a.m., he reportedly saw a car that was leaking fluid. Since the car was disabled in one of the lanes of Richmond Rd., Zotos was concerned about the possibility of an accident and approached the driver, SCSO reported. ‘Right to Fish’ law makes it a crime to interfere with work of watermen in VA

Starting in July, in Virginia, it will be a crime to interfere with the work of commercial watermen or their equipment, including their boats. That new law comes from Delegate Hillary Kent’s “Right to Fish” bill, HB 1256, which Governor Youngkin signed on April 4th. It will be a Class 1 misdemeanor for any person who knowingly and intentionally interferes with or impedes the operation or commercial fishing activity. Convictions carries a potential sentence of up to 12 months in jail and a fine up to $2,500. For the first offense, a person found guilty loses the ability to have hunting and fishing licenses for 1 year. Additional convictions bar individuals from having those licenses for 3 years. Two former Warren County deputies, Zachary Fadely, 31, and Tyler Poe, 27, are now facing homicide charges for a low-speed chase that resulted in the death of Ralph C. Ennis, a 77-year-old Gainsville man. On April 2, 2022, at about 1:20 a.m., Warren County police encountered Ennis on Winchester Rd. and initiated a traffic stop because he was speeding—63 in a 55 mph zone, according to Virginia State Police.
