Westmoreland man wanted for Stafford murder captured

The manhunt for 29-year-old Darren Jamal Newman of Westmoreland is over. Newman was wanted in Stafford for 2nd degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all charges related to the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old King George man who police have yet to name. According to Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the King George man was found shot in the 100 block of Deacon Rd. after midnight on December 30. He made it to the hospital alive but passed away a short time later. SCSO said detectives “quickly identified as the shooter as Darren Jamal Newman.” Authorities issued a public announcement that he was wanted and began a manhunt. The Richmond man and woman who pled guilty this week to assaulting a mailman in Mosby Court are each facing up to 8 years in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of VA (EDVA) said. The incident occurred on May 22, 2023. It was about 8:40 p.m. and 21-year-old Jumeka Jones was outside on the 1900 block of Accommodation Street in Richmond with her dog unleashed while a mail carrier, identified only as J.P., was delivering mail, the court documents show. J.P., fearing for his safety, asked Jones to contain the dog, which she admitted that she declined to do. Gloucester investigating and man arrested for shooting

Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office announced there’s an active investigation into a January 2 shooting but an arrest has been made. According to GCSO, deputies were dispatched to the 2300 Block of Perrin Creek Rd at 6:58 p.m. on Tuesday. The call was for “a domestic-related shooting,” and upon arriving at the scene in Hayes, police found an unnamed male victim “with serious injuries.” The man was transported to the hospital and, as of this morning (Jan. 3), he was still receiving medical care. The search warrant was served by the Narcotics Division of Caroline County Sherriff’s Office and members of the Tri-County Narcotics Task Force on December 27. Man who fled Caroline police found & arrested

A man wanted in Caroline County after reportedly running away during a traffic stop has been arrested. According to Caroline Sheriff’s Office, on December 27, just before 7 p.m. Deputy S. Mullane tried to stop a box truck on Ladysmith Rd. in front of Sheetz because the officer had reason to believe the vehicle was stolen. The driver, now believed to be 32-year-old Kevin Anthony Gibbons, pulled over. But according to CCSO, he jumped out, abandoning the box truck, and ran across a construction area toward Green Rd. After a 15-month investigation, Albert Benjamin Wharton was extradited from Pickens County, SC to Richmond County, VA to face 30 felonies for crimes against children. According to Richmond County Sheriff Steve Smith, the investigation involved Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit, and it resulted in charges for 22 counts of indecent liberties with a child under age 13 while in a custodial position and 8 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. A 55-year-old nurse practitioner has been charged and arrested for inappropriately touching patients during their medical consultations. Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office explained that the initial charges against Keith Allen Henry, listed as a Lewisberg, NC resident, were related to a 7-year-old patient. The child alerted her mother about the incident, which reportedly occurred on Nov. 7 at a medical clinic.
