James City County Police Announce Sex Offender on the Run

Authorities in James City County are searching for a sex offender who cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and fled. Police say Kevin Lavaughn Christian, 50—who also goes by “Kelvin” and “Squirrel”—is wanted for a probation violation for removing his monitoring device and petit larceny charges. Christian is a registered sex offender, and police warn the situation has escalated due to alarming statements he allegedly made including suggestions that he would rather harm himself than return to jail. Christian also reportedly threatened to commit robberies and have a violent encounter with police. An arrest has been made in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Spotsylvania that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man on January 9. According to Lt. Colonel Delbert Myrick, preliminary findings show that around 10 p.m. that Friday night, Sameer Anwar was riding an e-bike equipped with lights eastbound on Courthouse Road when he was struck from behind by a burgundy GMC SUV. (AD) The SUV fled the scene, and Anwar hit by a second vehicle, whose driver remained on site until Spotsylvania police and fire and rescue crews arrived.
