Home explosion in Sterling kills firefighter

An investigation and autopsy proceedings are underway after 13 people were injured and one was killed in a home explosion on Silver Ridge Drive in Sterling Friday night. Loudoun County Fire & Rescue (LCFR) said a 911 call came in about 7:38 p.m. reporting an odor of gas outside a residence. Rescue units found a 500-gallon underground propane tank with a leak on the side of the residence, said LCFR. They requested the Loudoun County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team as well as additional units from Sterling, South Riding, numerous command staff and safety officers report to the scene. Stringfellow Rd. in Fairfax closing this weekend

Stringfellow Road in Fairfax will be closing this weekend to allow for the installation of a water main. The northbound and southbound lanes of Rt. 645, Stringfellow Rd., between Route 29 and Centreville Farms Road are scheduled to close at 7 a.m Saturday, Feb. 17, until 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, VDOT announced. Local traffic can still use Stringfellow Road between Centreville Farms Road and Autumn Willow Drive. But, Stringfellow Road will be closed to all traffic in both directions between Autumn Willow Drive and Route 29. Through traffic will be detoured via Route 29 and Centreville Farms Road back to Stringfellow Road. 40-year-old Woodbridge twins alleged shoplifting attempt leads to drug charge

A set of 40-year-old twins from Woodbridge was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly committing a brazen act of shoplifting. According to Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, deputy R.L. Hubbard and deputy S.A. Hensley were dispatched to the Walmart at 11 Village Parkway around 5:30 p.m. for a report of two males who were allegedly walking out of the store with unpaid merchandise. The deputies found the pair in Lidl parking lot, and they had shopping carts, SCSO reported. VSP launching special operation on Interstate 66 for Super Bowl weekend

Drivers be advised, this weekend Virginia State Police are launching a traffic enforcement operation on Interstate 66 targeting those they consider to be risky drivers. VSP has issued advanced warning that people should line up their designated drivers for the Super Bowl. Over the next few days, troopers will not only be out on I-66, they'll be out in numbers. “The weekend of the Super Bowl is an excellent time to tackle bad driving behaviors,” said Lt. Col. A 44-year-old Ashburn woman is accused of going on quite a porch-raiding spree last fall. According to Leesburg Police Department, on Friday Nov 17, someone reported that a white woman with blonde hair had snatched a package that had just been delivered on Nivens Court SW. The package snatcher was driving a white colored sedan, LPD was told. Leesburg Police Department released a video compilation after a string of successful and attempted motor vehicle break-ins. According to LPD, detectives are investigating 26 incidents that occurred in the northeast part of town, all in the early hours of Tuesday, February 6. Days after a woman reported that a man tried to sexually assault her off of Main Line Boulevard, Alexandria PD is still looking for the suspect and urging the public to provide any video, audio, photographs, or other digital evidence. Maryland couple to be extradited to VA for larceny charges in Leesburg

Leesburg Police Department is waiting for a Maryland couple to be extradited back to Virginia to face felony charges related to a shoplifting incident that occurred last year. LPD officers were dispatched to the Ulta on Village Market Blvd, on October 27, a Friday. It was reported that around 3 p.m. a man and woman came in and stole over $6,400 worth of merchandise, the department stated. LPD launched an investigation and identified the suspects as 29-year-old Roxana Dumitru and 30-year-old Ionut-Robert Ionescu. Both are residents of Laurel, MD.
